st mary's wavertreeWould you like to learn how to sing and make new friends at the same time? You don’t need to have musical experience, just a willingness to join in and give it your best, because I will teach you the rest!

We have a small Pop/Gospel choir, rehearsing once a week in Wavertree, and we’d love you to join in! Rehearsals are at St Mary’s Church, 1 South Drive, Wavertree, L15 8JJ. We start at 7:30pm and finish at 9pm.

Do I need to audition?

Wavertree Voices is a non-auditioning group. Some members will have lots of singing experience and some, none at all, so come along and join in! We welcome members from all singing backgrounds. All you need is a love of music, a willingness to participate in making music together, and commitment to show up to rehearsals. And tell your friends!

Are there limited spots for new members?

We’re brand new so the more the merrier! We have no limit on member numbers right now.

What happens during rehearsals?

Rehearsals start off with a warm-up session to shake off the day and get everyone’s bodies ready for singing. First part of the rehearsal will be intros, simple vocal exercises, and unison and harmony singing to help train the ear and warm up the voice. Then we will learn a song, focusing first on singing together, to get comfortable with making a joyful noise. As we progress through rehearsal, we will learn separate harmonies, have a short break, and then get back together to jam the music we just learned.

Do I need to pay to be a member?

Modest membership fees of £5.00 per rehearsal (£3.50 concessions, please bring proof of benefits or student status) will cover the cost of singing materials, insurance, and room hire. Members can choose to pay per session or termly in advance. Membership fees can be paid in cash, or via PayPal or bank transfer. (Other occasional fees may be payable, e.g. to cover transport to venues for concerts if needed, but plenty of notice will be given).

What do I need to bring with me?

An open mind, a black plastic folder with plastic sleeves (not essential to start, just looks neat at concerts if we all have the same colour), a bottle of water, and small change to make a donation to the church if you want tea or coffee during break.
